B. Gordon/Lotys Sandstorm Gibb Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarship will be awarded based on demonstrated exceptional talent, not to include athletics.

Definition of “exceptional talent” is to be left to the University Scholarship Committee.

Bernard Gordon Gibb, born in Nebraska in 1921, attended Wesleyan University, married Lotys Sandstorm and served in the U.S. Army. He was a tank commander in WWII, landed in Normandy Beach on Day Six and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge from the army he attended Pepperdine University and Stanford University, where he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree. He was a faculty member of the Stanford School of Business and Director of the Stanford University Counseling and Testing Center. He was at CSU, Chico from 1958 to 1988 serving as Chair of the Department of Psychology and then Academic Vice-President. He was also a member of the Chico City Council, chairman of the Chico Airport Commission, and chairman of the Regional California Council for Criminal Justice. This scholarship was established when Dr. Gibb retired from Chico State in 1988. He passed away in October 1999.
