The intent of this scholarship is to assist and inspire students who reflect Dr. Katie’s unique creative spirit and who demonstrate a commitment to theatre arts as well as a life-long pursuit of collaborative artistic achievement. Dr. Katie Whitlock, “DK”, was an associate professor of theatre at Chico State from 2006 to 2015 and was granted full professorship posthumously in 2016. She impacted countless theatre students, in particular those in whom she recognized greatness, but who were not necessarily aware of it themselves, and who were not often cast in leading roles. Her mother, Dr. Adele H. Bealer established the scholarship to continue DK’s work in encouraging, inspiring, teaching, and celebrating students to pursue a degree and career in theatre arts.
