• Recipient should be a student emphasizing organismal (as opposed to molecular) biology in their studies or research.

Phillip A. Cothern graduated from Chico State in 1979 with a major in Biological Sciences. His interests were in wildlife biology. In October 1995 he was killed in an automobile accident.
