David W. Lantis Geography Scholarship

Background: Dr. Lantis taught at Chico State from 1957 until his retirement in 1984. He was a founding member of the Geography and Planning Department. Before coming to Chico, Lantis taught at various colleges. In his 45 years of teaching, he mostly taught geography, anthropology, geology, and history. Dave Lantis received his bachelor’s degree from Adams State College in 1939. His M.A. was completed at University of Cincinnati in 1945, and his Ph.D. was earned at Ohio State University in 1950. Dave, also known as “Mr. California Geography,” had many accomplishments including giving innumerable lectures, traveling on all seven continents, and being the senior author of a popular textbook on California that is still in print.
