Rotates every other year between majors in History and International Relations.
Dr. Oliver became acting president of Chico State College in 1970, following the resignation of Dr. Robert Hill, but immediately announced that his acceptance was for an interim period, as he did not wish to become the permanent president of Chico State College. He retired in 1971. Dr. Oliver taught history, served as chairman of the Social Sciences Division twice, and as History Department head. He received an Outstanding Teacher Award for 1969-70. He also served as chairman of the Faculty Senate committees on Education Policies and Bargaining, and as President of the Faculty Senate. In 1969, Dr. Oliver became Vice-president for Academic Affairs, a position he held until his appointment as Acting President. He passed away in 1977. Marcella Oliver established The Dr. Lew D. Oliver Scholarship Endowment in 1989, in memory of her husband, to provide support for students majoring in International Relations or History.
