This scholarship is to be awarded to an upper division undergraduate or graduate student pursing a degree in Geology (or MS Geosciences). High GPA is the preferred criteria for selection, and the recipient must have achieved a junior, senior, or grad student status at time of awarding. Additionally the preferred recipient of this scholarship should demonstrate contributions to their department, the college, the university, and/or their community through community service or peer tutoring.

This scholarship was founded by Pamela O’Neill in memory of her son Jacob O’Neill. Jacob was a Chico State alumni (Geology ‘09) pursuing his master’s degree at Chico State at the time of his death. Finding an early love of rocks during his childhood, Jacob chose Chico for the geology program, despite a strong legacy of Cal Poly Pomona graduates in his family. His mother is happy to honor her son’s memory by supporting the education of other geology Wildcats in his name.
