Jane Bowman Jewett and John Svec Memorial Keyboard Scholarship
- The intent is to award qualified CSUC music student(s) who is/or will be enrolled under the Keyboard Performance Option or the Certification Program in Keyboard Pedagogy.
In years in which there is not pedagogy student qualifying, more than one performance award may be offered, and vice-versa. - Minimum overall gpa 2.5
- Interest in teaching or performance as addressed in application essay
- Intention to enroll in appropriate courses
- For the Jewett, must have Intention to join the Butte County Branch of the Music Teacher’s Association of CA
- Audition or performance with keyboard faculty in attendance. (contact Music and Threatre Department for audition schedule)
- Incoming students must have a letter of recommendation from a keyboard instructor.
This scholarship was formed by a merger of the Jane Bowman Jewett Memorial Keyboard Fund and the John Svec Memorial Scholarship.Jane Bowman Jewett moved to the Chico area in 1980. From that time until her death, she was an enthusiastic supporter of the CSU, Chico Music Department, and especially keyboard music. She was the founder of the Keyboard Ensemble Workshop (KEW). John Svec, a friend of Jane’s, was an outstanding piano technician and served the CSUC Music Department for 16 years. John was also highly respected nation-wide for his excellent rebuilding of classic pianos, especially Steinways.
