Financial need
Gail’s parents, Keith and Kay Peterson, established this scholarship in the hope that her goal of service could still be realized by helping deserving nursing students complete their training. Gail Peterson graduated Cum Laude with a BA in English Literature from Chico State in 1974. She entered the nursing program and graduated near the top of her class in May 1989, with a BS and her nursing pin. She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. She worked as a nurse’s aid and student nurse at Enloe Hospital, served as a volunteer for Catalyst, a crisis center in Chico for battered women, and she tutored college and high school students. Sadly, Gail died in 1989 at the age of 37 following an illness resulting from brain cancer. Gail’s mother, Kay Peterson, died in 2005 following a five year illness with Parkinson’s disease. NSC-NURS
