• Preference to high school graduates from the twelve counties in the North State Initiative: Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, and Yuba.

This scholarship is for low income, first generation college students, first-time freshmen, California residents who chose to enroll at CSU, Chico. It was established in 1999 in memory of Dr. Fred Zannon, distinguished educator and promoter of educational opportunities of all. He believed that everyone who wanted an education, regardless of means or ability, deserved the best one that was available. Dr. Zannon was the only one of his nine brothers and sisters who earned a college degree.
