In memory of Dr. Peter C. Apostolakos. Peter C. Apostolakos, Professor of Psychology, taught at CSU, Chico and served as Chair of the Department of Psychology and later as Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences. His father died before Peter finished high school and it was necessary for him to contribute to family support as well as work his way through school during the Great Depression years. He studied at the University of Minnesota, earning an MA in educational psychology in 1949 after serving in the U.S. Army in WWII. His PhD in psychology and statistics was bestowed in 957. He taught at colleges in Minnesota and Texas, then came to CSU, Chico where for 24 years he was a teacher, administrator, and mentor. He retired from teaching in 1983, but continued to teach part time for five more years. Dr. Apostolakos believed strongly in education as a means of self-actualization. It was his wish to start a scholarship fund for psychology students, particularly those who might not otherwise have financial support. Toward that end, and after his passing in 2002, Dr. Apostolakos’ wife Ruth and numerous friends contributed funds to make that wish possible. It is Ruth’s wish that the fund will grow and bring benefits to increasing numbers of students of psychology at CSU, Chico.
