As a young boy growing up in rural San Diego County, Mack Reynolds only hoped he would be able to attend college. For his final two summers of high school, Mack saved all he could toward his goal of going to college and majoring in Engineering. In 1960, after completing high school, Mack enrolled at San Diego State in the Department of Civil Engineering. Years later after being in the Air Force with a B.S. and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, he was delighted to be appointed as an Assistant Professor at Chico State. For twenty years at Chico, he was a teacher, mentor, surrogate parent, friend, coach, and cheerleader. His legacy will be reflected in the lives and careers of the hundreds of students whom he taught and advised.
