Bill Niepoth Track & Field/Cross Country Scholarship

This scholarship is for male or female student-athletes who participate in cross-country or track and field at Chico State. Priority is for those athletes who contribute the most to the overall strength of the program(s). The preference is for students who complete in 400M and longer, when that can be done without compromising team needs.

Bill and Marilyn Niepoth established this scholarship because of family interests in track and field/cross country and their appreciation of the outstanding tradition in these sports established by Chico State’s coaches and student-athletes. Bill is a professor emeritus in Recreation and Park Management at CSU, Chico. He also is a Chico State graduate (Art and Physical Education), and a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He ran the two-mile in the 1946, ’47, ’48 and ’49 seasons. About the same time Bill was competing, a member of the extended Niepoth family was setting records in Europe. Georg Niepoth (400m, 400m hurdles, 4×400m, 4×400m hurdles) qualified for the 1952 Olympics, but was unable to participate due to limited funding of the German national team.
